2019년도 대한민국 4대 민주 항쟁으로 4.19혁명, 5.18민주화 운동, 6월 민주 항쟁과 함께 부마민주 항쟁이 새롭게 지정되었다.

The four major democratic protests of the Republic of Korea in 2019, along with the April 19 Revolution, the May 18 Democratic Movement, and the June Democratic Uprising, were newly designated as the Buma Democratic Uprising.

유신 체제에 맞서기 위해 시작된 이 항쟁은 부산에서 시작하여 마산으로 크게 번지며 박정희 전 대통령의 군부 독재 체제를 끝냈다는 평을 받고 있다.

The uprising, which began to confront the Yushin regime, began in Busan and spread to Masan, and is said to have ended former President Park Chung-hee's military dictatorship.

현재 부산지역은 부마민주 항쟁을 기념하는 건축물, 공원, 기념비 등이 설치되어 기억할 수 있는 공간이 형성되어 있지만 마산 지역은 처음 시작된 월영지 인근 기념비 하나만 존재하고 있기에 상징성과 기억될 장소가 부족하여 마산 경남대 앞 월영지 인근 부마민주 항쟁 기념관을 제안하였다.

Currently, buildings, parks, and monuments are installed in Busan to commemorate the Buma Democratic Uprising, but only one monument exists near the Wolyeongji area where the Masan area first began, so there was no symbolism and place to be remembered.
