Intro

도시는 구체적인 상징과 기억, 욕망이 담겨 있어 해석의 여지가 다분한 일종의 텍스트로 시민들은 도시에서의 경험과 기억을 통해 각자의 그물망으로 엮어 의미를 만든다. 이로 인해 도시는 단순한 물리적 '공간'에서 사람들의 기억이 서린 하나의 '장소'로 탈바꿈한다. 을지로는 과거 서울의 제조업을 대표하는 지역이였지만, 산업구조의 변화로 인해 쇠퇴하여 20세기의 기억을 간직한 채 머물러 있엇다. 이러한 도심 속 외딴섬이었던 을지로의 가치를 알아보고 활력을 불어넣은 건 다름아닌 '청년'이였다. 청년들은 모두가 더럽고 오래되었다며 고개를 돌렸던 을지로를 새로운 시각으로 해석해 문화예술로서 그들만의 을지로를 새로이 써내려갔다. 서울의 역사를 고스란히 간직한 을지로에는 수많은 매력적인 요소들이 잠재되어 있었고 청년들이 이를 발견하여 만들어낸 다양한 결과물들이 쌓여 을지로의 새로운 무늬를 만들고 그 무늬들이 쌓여 을지로의 새로운 흐름을 만들었다. 이러한 청년들과 제조업 장인들이 을지로에 쌓아 가는 새로운 화음에 집중하여 과거의 을지로를 기록하고 현재의 새로운 색깔을 가진 '장소'로서의 을지로를 그려보고자 한다.

도시보존  vs  도시개발

도시개발은 도심공동화를 방지하고 침체된 도시경제를 활성화 시키기 위하여 새로운 기능을 도입하고 창출함으로써 물리 환경적, 산업경제적 , 사회문화적으로 재활성화시키는 것이다. 

하지만 무분별하게 기존 도시조직을 삭제 해버리고 새로운 건축을 하는  형태의 개발이 주를 이루고 있으며 이러한 형태의 개발으로 인해 삶의 터전을 보존하고자 하는 여러 지역의 기존 주민들이 고통받고 있다. 하지만 그들의 삶의 터전은 노후화 되어 더이상 그들의 삶에 쾌적한 환경이 되어주지 못하고 있다. 그들의 삶의 터전을 보존할 수도 개발 할 수도 없는 역설적인 상황인 것이다. 

이러한 이슈를 해결하고자 을지로 제조산업단지를 대상으로 기존 도시조직을 유지한채 새로운 기능을 도입고 창출하여 쇠락도심지를 재활성화 시키는 새로운 형태의 주거프로토 타입을 제안한다.

Intro

The city is a kind of text that has a lot of room for interpretation because it contains concrete symbols, memories, and desires, and citizens make meaning by weaving it into their own nets through their experiences and memories in the city. As a result, the city transforms itself from a simple physical "space" into a "place" where people's memories hang. Eulji-ro was a representative area of the manufacturing industry in Seoul in the past, but it declined due to changes in its industrial structure and remained in memory of the 20th century. It was none other than "young people" who recognized the value of Euljiro, a remote island in the city center, and revitalized it. Young people interpreted Euljiro as a new perspective, saying it was dirty and old, and wrote their own Euljiro as a culture and art. Euljiro, which retains the history of Seoul, had many attractive elements, and various results from young people's discoveries were piled up to create new patterns of Euljiro, and the patterns piled up to create a new trend toward Euljiro. These young people and manufacturing craftsmen want to focus on the new harmony that builds on Euljiro to record Euljiro in the past and paint Euljiro as a "place" with the current new colors.

Urban Conservation vs Urban Development

Urban development is the revitalization of the physical environment, industrial economy, and social culture by introducing and creating new functions to prevent urban hollowing out and revitalize the sluggish urban economy.

However, the development of new buildings and the removal of existing urban organizations is the main focus, and this type of development is suffering from existing residents in many areas who want to preserve their living quarters. But their homes are aging and no longer a comfortable environment for their lives. It is a paradoxical situation in which they cannot preserve or develop their home.

To address these issues, we propose a new type of residential protocol that revitalizes declining urban centers by introducing and creating new functions while maintaining existing urban organizations for Euljiro Manufacturing Industrial Complex.
